Learning Environment Design Project

Connection to USC Rossier's 4 Academic Pillars

This section will discuss how the design of YouPrep: An Online Course for New Educators' learning environment connects to USC RSOE's four academic pillars of Learning, Diversity, Accountability, and Leadership.

Learning

  • YouPrep's course content is designed to provide learners with the skills necessary to apply the Learning pillar in their classrooms.
  • Through the use of both physical and virtual learning environments to foster flipped instruction, learners will be able to apply these theories are principles of learning.

Diversity

  • Generative and supplantive strategies are used in order to scaffold instruction.
  • Online modules allow learners to pause, rewind, and continue forward at their own pace.
  • Furniture in classroom settings during in-person sessions can be moved around in order to create a collaborative atmosphere.
  • childcare and technology provided for those who need it.

Accountability

  • The course instructor will use data from quizzes completed after each module in order to plan and guide instruction,
  • By the end of the course, learners will be able to assess and evaluate student data in order to create evidence based goals.
  • Learners will be observed throughout the course to measure the course's success.

Leadership

  • Learners will have opportunities and be expected to apply the leadership skills they learn throughout the course.
  • Both the instructor and the learners will demonstrate effective use of strategies and abilities to create and sustain partnerships with each other, as well as administrators, parents, and students.
